"A fascinating, exciting story."
– Sylvia Nasar, author of A Beautiful Mind
As a refugee during World War II, Leo needed help from authorities in Europe to immigrate to the United States. He could easily have pleaded his case based on his needs and desires. Instead he looked at things through their eyes and proposed solutions that would give the authorities what they wanted – while also, not coincidentally, getting him what he wanted. This became a hallmark of Leo's success in life: seeing through other eyes. (See "A Short History of 'Seeing Through Other Eyes'" on this page. And, of course, the complete and thrilling tale is in the book!)
In 2007, Leo (along with Eric Maskin and Roger Myerson) won the Nobel Prize in Economics for founding the field of mechanism design. Our keynote concert shows how mechanism design incorporates the principle of "seeing through other eyes."
